Smiling Cat Upcycled Goods is a creative sustainability project that came out of learning that less than 9% of the plastic and less than 30% of the glass that we put in our recycling bins actually gets recycled. the heart of the idea is simple and powerful: keep materials out of landfills by reimagining them as practical, creative pieces with a new purpose. instead of letting hard-to-recycle items end up in landfills, Smiling Cat gives them a second life. things like non-recyclable packaging or an old piece of furniture can be reimagined as practical pieces such as decorative items, household goods, or gifts for others.
what we love most about this project is the spirit behind it. run by Alexis Heydt, Smiling Cat is rooted in curiosity, creativity, and care for the planet. it reminds us that sustainability does not always have to mean starting from scratch. sometimes it simply means looking at what already exists and asking, “what else could this become?"
as the project grows, Smiling Cat Upcycled Goods will continue exploring new ways to reduce waste while making thoughtful, one-of-a-kind pieces that celebrate resourcefulness and imagination.
